Jack has no idea where the feather is other than in the adjacent foreign country. He must retrieve the feather even though he is now saddled with his chief rival, the obnoxious Penny Ephram, and get the object to his mentor in time to save him.

Along the way he must battle with armies, wizards, wolves, and betrayals of all sort as he pursues completing his task.
